The Sparacio family

From staff to supporters, the Field Museum community has continued to give back to Chicago’s health care workers, first responders, and essential community volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

When Ayer Society member Gabi Sparacio learned how the Field Museum’s Regenstein Conservator JP Brown repurposed the Museum’s 3D printers to create NIH-approved face shields, she was curious to learn more. After contacting staff who put her in touch with JP, Gabi and her husband, Scott, discovered how they could take JP’s idea to their community.

With JP’s guidance and insight, the Sparacio family, with fellow Field Museum member and friend Ian Wright, successfully produced 100 face shields with their personal 3D printer. They have distributed the shields to first responders in the medical industry, such as nurses and physical therapists, as well as small-business owners and friends at high risk of severe illness.

We are grateful for the Sparacio family for their example of community service, and for generously supporting the Field Museum in their estate.
